Welcome to the Nursing research guide! It's often hard to know where and how to get started in the research process, or the process of searching for literature. This guide will provide a variety of starting points for you as you move through the process. Remember, it's a process! You can always feel free to contact Dr. Birch if you get stuck along the way. If you are spending more than 45 minutes searching for sources then it's time to contact Dr. Birch or one of the other librarians for assistance.
Also, as a student at NNU you should never have to pay extra money to access resources. If you are searching the open Web and come across articles that require a fee to access, try searching for the article in EBSCO or ProQuest first. There's a chance the article is available through one of these licensed resources. However, there is a chance you may need to request the article through the free interlibrary loan service. It takes some planning ahead, but all articles requested are sent to your NNU email address.
Health Policy for Health Care Professionals
The NNU Library has copies of the Scopes and Standards" series for various nursing specialties. These copies may be found in the Main Collection (2nd floor) of the Learning Commons. You may find excerpts online, but the full version will be available in print. Items in the print collection of the library will have a call number beginning with R (e.g., RT85.5.A43). If you need assistance locating an item you may ask for assistance from someone in the Research/Writing Help Office (Room 133, near the Reference Collection), or the Learning Commons Service Desk.
You can also request that the library staff scan and email a section of the guide to you by completing this form. Due to copyright restrictions the library is limited as to how much of the item can be scanned and emailed, the general allowance is 10% (if a book is 50 pages, the amount that can be scanned and emailed is 5 pages).
