I took a Spanish course during High School or at another Institution. Does this count for the Cultural Competency requirement?
Coursework completed prior to enrollment at NNU does not count toward the General Education Cultural Competency requirement.

I'm a transfer student. Do I have to meet the Cultural Competency requirement?
If you transferred to NNU with 60 or more credits or an AA degree, you will need to complete one Cultural Competency (CC) or Cultural Competency Experience (CE) course.

I am a student in the Graduate and Professional Programs. Do I have to meet the Cultural Competency requirement?
Undergraduate students in the Graduate and Professional Programs will need to complete one Cultural Competency course.

I am a returning adult student with a variety of life experiences. Will my life experiences meet the criteria for the Cultural Competency requirement?
To determine whether or not a specific experience qualifies as a Cultural Competency experience, please have your advisor contact their General Education Council representative.

I am a veteran who spent "x" years in Iraq or Afghanistan. Does this count for the Cultural Competency requirement?
Possibly, if your deployment included significant immersion in another culture.  To see if your deployment qualifies, have your advisor contact their General Education Council representative.

I am an international student who grew up in another country. Does that count for the Cultural Competency requirement?
If you lived outside the US in a non-English speaking country for at least a year after the age of 7 you may fill out a life experience approval form. To see if your life experience qualifies, please have your advisor contact their General Education Council representative.

I plan to go to Bolivia (or wherever) this summer: will that trip count?
Possibly, if it is attached to a course and overseen by a faculty sponsor. Individually planned trips will not be considered as fulfilling the Cultural Competency requirements.
