Introduction to resources supporting Sport and Exercise Science

Your Pathway to Sources & Information

The NNU Library provides access a variety of print and electronic books. Print books are located on the second floor of the Leah Peterson Learning Commons. Books are arranged using the Library of Congress Classification System. For Sport and Exercise Science, some items may be located in the GV section, with others may be located in the Q's or RC's. Materials dealing with the business side of sports may be located in the H's. The short video below will demonstrate how to search for and access books and eBooks on your topic. Keep in mind, you don't have to read the entire book to use information from it in your paper. Use the Table of Contents and Index to locate a chapter or section that might have information on the topic of your choosing. As always, seek out the assistance of a librarian if you have questions about locating sources or finding a print book on the shelf.

The John E. Riley Library provides access to a number of licensed resources to assist you in locating the sources of information of you need. The two primary journal search engines are EBSCO and ProQuest. Each provide disciplinary resources within them that you can search together or individually. For example, you may want to search "All EBSCO" or you can choose to search only the Psychology-related databases. Part of the research process is knowing where you can look to find the specific information you need. You can always ask a librarian about what search tools are available or how to develop successful search strategies. You will see a list of licensed and open access resources below. ALL EBSCO is listed first, with the subject-specific databases in EBSCO (pertaining to Sport & Exercise Science) below.

Reference sources are good places to find information you won't traditionally find in research, or peer-reviewed, journals. These sources may include, but not limited to:

The John E. Riley Library provides access to some reference source tools that can help in locating definitions/history of terms and concepts, tracking of research history, and development of a concept over time.
